Overview

Bolton's Money Skills Service helps to prevent social and financial exclusion and promotes financial awareness.

We do this by delivering training workshops based on financial themes. These sessions feature a mix of activities which seek to address the emotional, mental and physical impact of money worries as well as imparting practical advice and tips on financial/consumer matters.

We aim to widen participation in adult learners to develop confidence and build personal financial skills and knowledge, thus sessions are specifically targeted to meet the needs of each client group we work with.

We believe we are one of the best financial literacy services around.

* The work that we currently do has developed from four years experience in delivering sessions based on financial themes.
* Our service was one of the first financial capability projects in the North West (possibly in the UK) to offer accreditation via the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) Unit Award Scheme and act as an AQA registered centre. Our participants have the option to access and receive accreditation for their personal achievements and receive a certificate for their endeavours.

Other projects and agencies have since followed our lead and are now looking to the AQA for accreditation. We are keen to work with others to help them achieve this.

Many of the people we work with are on low incomes and have often had some debt problems in the past. We work in informal community settings where people feel comfortable. We are aware of the range of difficulties which people may have with literacy or numeracy and arrange exercises in game or other activity form to ensure that no-one is made to feel uncomfortable or threatened. We are keen to ensure that participants enjoy sessions and humour is central both in the development and delivery of the workshops.

Our workshops are free to people who live within Bolton. However we are happy to run our workshops for community groups throughout the North West, at a nominal cost. If you would like more information please contact us on 01204 331968.
